Dubai: The iconic Indian wicketkeeper-batter and former captain, MS Dhoni, has been honored with a place in the esteemed ICC Hall of Fame, adding yet another remarkable milestone to his illustrious cricket journey. The International Cricket Council revealed on Monday that Dhoni is one of seven cricketers celebrated this year, alongside legends such as Matthew Hayden from Australia and South Africa's Hashim Amla.
Recognized for his composure in high-pressure situations and exceptional strategic insight, MS Dhoni's legacy as one of cricket's finest finishers, leaders, and wicketkeepers has been immortalized with this induction into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame.
With a staggering total of 17,266 international runs, 829 dismissals, and participation in 538 matches for India, Dhoni's statistics not only highlight his excellence but also his remarkable consistency, fitness, and longevity, as noted in the ICC's announcement.
Dhoni, who captained India to three significant ICC titles—the 2007 T20 World Cup, the 2011 ODI World Cup, and the 2013 Champions Trophy—was praised by the ICC for his strategic brilliance and his pioneering role in limited-overs cricket. His career statistics include 17,266 runs, 829 dismissals as a wicketkeeper, and 538 international appearances, underscoring his enduring impact on the sport.
Among his numerous ODI records, Dhoni holds the title for the most stumpings (123), the highest score by a wicketkeeper (183*), and the most matches captained for India (200). The pinnacle of his career arrived in 2011 when he led India to World Cup victory after a 28-year hiatus.
