MS Dhoni Inducted into ICC Hall of Fame: A Journey of Excellence
Celebrating MS Dhoni's Historic Induction
New Delhi, June 10: Rajeev Shukla, Vice President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Congress MP, praised the iconic MS Dhoni after his induction into the ICC Hall of Fame during a ceremony held in London on Monday. This prestigious recognition makes Dhoni the 11th Indian cricketer to receive this honor.
Shukla shared his thoughts on social media, stating, “From the streets of Ranchi to the ICC Hall of Fame, what a remarkable journey. MS Dhoni’s story exemplifies determination and excellence. A small-town boy who transformed cricket history and captured the hearts of a billion. Congratulations to MS Dhoni on this well-deserved accolade.”
The ICC Hall of Fame honors the remarkable achievements of cricket legends who have significantly influenced the sport's vibrant history. According to BCCI's announcement, players become eligible for induction five years after their last international match.
Dhoni's legacy includes leading India to its first T20 World Cup victory in 2007 with a relatively inexperienced team, guiding the Men in Blue to a historic ODI World Cup win in 2011 on home soil, and securing the Champions Trophy in 2013. He is the only captain in cricket history to have won all three ICC white-ball trophies, showcasing his ability to turn pressure into opportunity and dreams into reality.
In addition to his captaincy, Dhoni revolutionized the role of a finisher in ODIs, with his unbeaten score of 183* against Sri Lanka in 2005 still standing as the highest by a wicketkeeper in this format.
With over 10,000 runs in ODIs at an impressive average of 50.57, his batting legacy is both significant and enduring.
As a wicketkeeper, Dhoni was exceptional, known for his quick stumpings and sharp anticipation, which transformed wicketkeeping in limited-overs cricket.
His unconventional methods, much like his captaincy, defied norms but consistently delivered outstanding results.

Reflecting on this honor, MS Dhoni expressed, “Being named in the ICC Hall of Fame is a privilege that acknowledges the contributions of cricketers from various generations and regions. To have my name remembered alongside such legendary figures is a wonderful feeling—something I will treasure forever.”
The ICC Hall of Fame was established in January 2009 as part of the ICC's centenary celebrations and has since recognized the greatest players to have played the game.
Alongside Dhoni, Hashim Amla, Matthew Hayden, Graeme Smith, and Daniel Vettori were also inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame Class of 2025.
