Mohun Bagan Super Giant Secures RFDL Title

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], April 14: The Mohun Bagan Super Giant emerged victorious in the Reliance Foundation Development League (RFDL) 2024-25, defeating Classic Football Academy 3-0 in the final held at Reliance Corporate Park in Mumbai on Monday. Pasang Dorjee Tamang was the star of the match, scoring a stunning hat-trick to lead his team to victory.

From the outset, the Mariners showcased their dominance, controlling possession and dictating the pace of the game. In the 8th minute, Tamang opened the scoring with a spectacular shot from the edge of the box that found the top right corner, setting the tone for the match.

This early goal boosted Mohun Bagan's confidence, and soon after, Tamang capitalized on a defensive error from Classic FA to net his second goal, extending the lead to 2-0. Although Classic FA had opportunities to score, they struggled with their finishing in the crucial moments.

The second half mirrored the first, with Mohun Bagan continuing to dominate. Tamang completed his hat-trick in the 52nd minute, slotting home a loose ball to secure a 3-0 lead and seal the championship for his team.

The semi-finalists of the RFDL 2024-25 season hailed from four different states—West Bengal, Manipur, Goa, and Jharkhand—demonstrating the impressive quality of the teams involved. Notably, three of the four semi-finalists were also part of the last four in the Indian Super League 2024-25 season: Mohun Bagan Super Giant, FC Goa, and Jamshedpur FC. Classic FA, the only academy team to reach this stage, also secured a spot in the upcoming Premier League Next Generation Cup presented by Reliance Foundation.

This season has been a remarkable one for Mohun Bagan Super Giant, who not only triumphed in the RFDL but also celebrated their senior team's success in clinching the Indian Super League Double—League Shield and Cup. Additionally, their U-15 team won the trophy in the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports (RFYS) Kolkata region.

In the earlier third-place playoff, FC Goa narrowly defeated Jamshedpur FC 1-0, with Saish Gaunkar scoring the decisive goal in the 15th minute after a low cross from Gogocha Chungkham. Despite Jamshedpur's efforts to equalize in the second half, FC Goa's defense held firm to secure the win.
