Mohammed Siraj Honors Diogo Jota During Test Match Against England

Tribute to Diogo Jota by Mohammed Siraj

During the second day of the third Test match against England at Lord's, Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj paid a touching tribute to the late Liverpool footballer Diogo Jota on July 11. This came shortly after the sports community was shaken by the tragic news of Jota's death alongside his brother, Andre Silva, on July 3.

The unfortunate incident occurred on the A-52 highway in Zamora, where Jota and Silva were involved in a car accident. Reports indicate that their Lamborghini veered off the road near Palacios de Sanabria, leading to a fire that trapped them inside, resulting in their untimely deaths. A blowout on the tire is believed to have caused the vehicle to lose control.

Siraj's Emotional Gesture

In a moment of remembrance for Jota, Siraj honored him after taking the wicket of Jamie Smith during England's first innings. Instead of celebrating in his usual style, Siraj formed the number '20' with his fingers, representing Jota's jersey number, and looked skyward in a heartfelt salute.

Siraj's wicket of Smith was his first of the match, and he later dismissed Brydon Carse, contributing to India's efforts to restrict England to 387 runs in 112.3 overs.

Jasprit Bumrah's Outstanding Performance

In addition to Siraj's tribute, Jasprit Bumrah showcased his bowling prowess by achieving a five-wicket haul in the ongoing Test series. After being rested for the Edgbaston Test, Bumrah returned to form at Lord's, claiming five wickets, including those of notable players like Joe Root and Ben Stokes, with impressive figures of 5/74 in 27 overs.

This performance marked Bumrah's second five-wicket haul in the series and his 13th in overseas Tests, surpassing the previous record held by Kapil Dev.
