Mohammed Shami Urges Indian Bowlers to Support Jasprit Bumrah After Test Loss
India's Struggles in the Opening Test Against England
India faced a setback in the first Test of the five-match series against England at Headingley, Leeds. Despite scoring over 800 runs across both innings, the Indian bowlers failed to restrict England's chase. Jasprit Bumrah stood out with his bowling performance, delivering 44 overs and claiming five wickets in the first innings.
Bowlers Fail to Make an Impact
However, the other bowlers, including Prasidh Krishna and Shardul Thakur, struggled to contribute significantly. Together, they managed to take only 10 wickets throughout both innings, which hindered India's ability to defend a substantial total.
Mohammed Shami's Insights
Mohammed Shami commented:
"Other Indian bowlers should engage with Bumrah to learn from his experience. They need to strategize with him and provide support. If they back Bumrah, we can secure victories. Reflecting on the first match, it's evident we need to enhance our bowling performance."
Shami further elaborated:
"In the second innings, Shardul Thakur and Prasidh Krishna each took two wickets, but by the time Shardul dismissed two English batsmen, the match was already beyond our grasp."
Shami Advocates for Team Support
The seasoned pacer, who is currently recovering from an injury, shared his thoughts on his YouTube channel. He emphasized the necessity for other Indian bowlers to learn from Bumrah and bolster his efforts, stating that one player cannot win matches alone.
Shami noted that while the Indian batsmen are performing admirably in English conditions, the team's losses stem from inadequate bowling and fielding. His key message was clear: "Bumrah needs support."
Shami stated:
"People often claim that batting in England is challenging, yet our batsmen are doing well. We must focus more on our bowling and fielding. Supporting Bumrah is crucial. Taking wickets with the new ball is essential. We allowed England to win the first Test by conceding too many easy runs. We need to strengthen our bowling unit."
