Mohammad Nawaz Faces Three-Month Suspension for Doping Violation
Nawaz's Doping Violation
Mohammad Nawaz, a left-arm spinner from Pakistan, has accepted a three-month suspension due to a breach of the ICC Anti-Doping Code. This period will be shortened to one month upon successful completion of a substance abuse treatment program, as stated in an ICC media release.
Positive Test Results
The 32-year-old cricketer tested positive for Carboxy-THC, a substance classified as abuse, following a doping test conducted after the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 match against the Netherlands in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on February 7.
Sanction Details
Nawaz acknowledged his offense and clarified that the substance was used outside of competition and not for enhancing sports performance. Consequently, he received a three-month suspension, retroactively effective from May 1, 2026, when he began a voluntary provisional suspension. This suspension can be reduced to one month upon completing the required treatment program.
Provisional Suspension Lifted
Following his acceptance of the sanction and commitment to the treatment program, Nawaz's provisional suspension has been lifted after serving two and a half months. If he successfully completes the treatment to the ICC's satisfaction, he will not face any additional suspension.
Disqualification of Match Records
In accordance with the ICC Anti-Doping Code, all of Nawaz's match records from the game against the Netherlands on February 7 and subsequent matches until May 1, 2026, have been disqualified.
