Mithali Raj Discusses Delhi Capitals' Key Players

As the countdown to the 2026 season of the Women's Premier League (WPL) begins, former Indian captain Mithali Raj has shared her insights on the Delhi Capitals (DC), a team that has reached the finals three times. She highlighted the significance of key players selected during the auction, including Laura Wolvaardt. Raj also evaluated the franchise's chances of clinching their first title under the new captain, Jemimah Rodrigues.

Laura Wolvaardt's Impact and Leadership

Speaking on GeoStar, Mithali Raj praised Laura Wolvaardt's exceptional form in the One Day format. Over the past few seasons, she has excelled as a batsman for the Gujarat Giants, making substantial contributions to her team. Given her leadership qualities and batting prowess, it is likely that the team will want her in the playing eleven. Ahead of the 2026 season, Delhi Capitals have appointed Jemimah as their new captain, succeeding Australia's Meg Lanning.

Jemimah Rodrigues Takes the Helm

Raj expressed her excitement about seeing Jemimah Rodrigues lead the Delhi Capitals in the upcoming WPL 2026. She noted that the experience gained while playing for India will naturally benefit Jemimah in her new role. Raj stated, "It will be interesting to see Jemimah captain the Delhi Capitals. She has led Mumbai in domestic cricket, but captaining a franchise and guiding international players is a different challenge. However, her experience with the national team will serve her well."

Delhi Capitals' Quest for the Title

Despite reaching the finals in every WPL season so far, the Delhi Capitals have yet to secure the trophy. The WPL 2026 will kick off on January 9 with a match between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). DC will play their first match of the season against MI on Sunday.
