Update on Mitchell Starc's Availability

Hemang Badani, the head coach of Delhi Capitals (DC), shared an important update regarding the status of Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc as the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 approaches. Badani mentioned that they are currently waiting for clearance from Cricket Australia regarding Starc's participation in the upcoming season. He emphasized that Starc's fitness and workload are under close observation, and further updates will be provided once the No Objection Certificate (NOC) is obtained.

During a media briefing in New Delhi, Badani was joined by DC captain Axar Patel and cricket director Venugopal Rao.

NOC from Cricket Australia Pending

"We maintain regular communication with Cricket Australia. Starc has been bowling and recently practiced. However, until Cricket Australia confirms his fitness, there is little that the franchise can do," Badani stated.

"We are eagerly awaiting the NOC from Cricket Australia. Once it arrives, we will have clarity on when he can join the team," he added.

Positive Outlook from DC's Cricket Director

Venugopal Rao, DC's Director of Cricket, also expressed optimism regarding Starc's arrival, stating, "Starc is coming; we are just waiting for the clearance from Cricket Australia."

Precautionary Measures by Cricket Australia

It is anticipated that Starc will miss at least the initial matches of the tournament. Cricket Australia is adopting a cautious approach with their experienced pacer, as they have a demanding 12-month schedule ahead, which includes up to 21 matches. This period features significant tours to South Africa, India, and England, culminating in their defense of the ODI World Cup title in southern Africa in late 2027.

Starc's Impact and DC's Season Opener

Last season, Starc was a key player for DC, finishing as the team's second-highest wicket-taker with 14 wickets in 11 matches.

The IPL is set to commence on March 28, with Delhi Capitals kicking off their campaign against LSG on April 1 in Lucknow.
