Mitchell Starc Withdraws from IPL 2025, Leaving Delhi Capitals in a Bind
Mitchell Starc's Departure from IPL 2025
Mitchell Starc has officially notified the Delhi Capitals (DC) that he will not return to India for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season. The seasoned fast bowler has chosen to withdraw from the league to focus on his preparation for the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) final. Starc exits the tournament as DC's leading wicket-taker this season, having claimed 14 wickets in 11 matches with an average of 26.14, showcasing his significant contribution despite the team's inconsistent performance.
Concerns Over Overseas Player Availability for DC
Tristan Stubbs has expressed his willingness to continue participating in the league, but he will depart before the WTC final. Meanwhile, there is still no official word on Faf du Plessis' potential return, adding to the uncertainty surrounding the availability of overseas players.
Roster Changes and Player Updates
In another roster adjustment, DC has retained Mustafizur Rahman as a substitute for Jake Fraser-McGurk, who will not be returning this season. However, Mustafizur's participation remains in question, as the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has not yet received a formal request for a No Objection Certificate (NOC). Currently, he is in Sharjah, competing in a T20I series against the UAE.
Additionally, Australian players Pat Cummins and Travis Head are set to return to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), who are now out of playoff contention and will conclude their season by May 25, allowing them ample time to prepare for the WTC final.
Josh Hazlewood, dealing with a shoulder issue, will evaluate his fitness before deciding on a return to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for their playoff run. Josh Inglis remains uncertain about rejoining Punjab Kings (PBKS), while Mitchell Marsh is expected to return to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
