Mitchell Starc Reclaims No. 1 Spot in ICC Test Bowling Rankings
Mitchell Starc Tops ICC Test Rankings
Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc has regained his position as the world's top bowler, surpassing South Africa's Marco Jansen in the latest ICC Men's Test Bowling Rankings. This achievement follows Starc's impressive nine-wicket haul during the final ICC World Test Championship match against South Africa in Cape Town, allowing him to reclaim the top spot.
Starc first ascended to the No. 1 ranking in August, dethroning India's Jasprit Bumrah. However, Jansen took over the lead after securing six wickets in the second Test for South Africa. In contrast, Jansen managed only three wickets in the Cape Town match, which enabled Starc to regain his position and achieve a new career-high ranking in a competitive Test bowling landscape.
South African Bowlers Rise in Rankings
Two other South African players have also made significant strides in the Test bowling rankings. Spinner Simon Harmer, following his Player of the Match performance at Newlands, where he took six wickets in Australia's second innings, has climbed nine places to rank seventh overall. He now sits just ahead of his teammate Kagiso Rabada.
Despite losing the top bowler position, Jansen has strengthened his lead in the Test all-rounder rankings, achieving a new career-high rating after scoring a half-century in the third Test. His teammates Wiaan Mulder and Harmer also made notable gains, moving to third and fifth place, respectively, in the all-rounder category. Additionally, Aiden Markram, Mulder, and Ryan Rickelton have all seen significant improvements in their rankings for Test batters.
