Mitchell Starc Defends Himself Against Critics Over IPL Arrival Delay
Starc Responds to Criticism Regarding IPL Delay
Mitchell Starc, the Australian fast bowler, has issued a strong rebuttal to his detractors following the postponement of his arrival for the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. He stated that certain critics have shared 'heavily misinformed' views regarding his injury status. As of now, Starc has not yet joined the Delhi Capitals (DC) team, which is set to kick off its season today. His late arrival has drawn ire from various cricket analysts and fans.
In a previous update, DC's head coach Hemang Badani mentioned that they are waiting for clearance from Cricket Australia regarding Starc's participation. He emphasized that Starc's fitness and workload are under close observation, and further updates will be provided once the No Objection Certificate (NOC) is received.
Clarification on Injury and Media Speculation
Starc took to Instagram to clarify his situation, revealing that he is in recovery from shoulder and elbow injuries. He noted that he only learned the full extent of these injuries after the Australian summer. He criticized the media for spreading misinformation about his fitness for the IPL, stating that some individuals have made incorrect assumptions about his condition. 'Despite the opinions of certain individuals in the Indian media, I am currently rehabilitating and managing injuries that I was unaware of during the Australian summer. These individuals have made strong claims about my IPL involvement and presented misinformed opinions as facts,' he expressed in his Instagram story.
Commitment to Delhi Capitals and Apology to Fans
Starc extended his apologies to both the Delhi Capitals and their supporters for not being available at the start of the season. He reassured everyone of his dedication to rejoin the team as soon as he is fit, maintaining regular communication with the franchise. 'I acknowledge that this injury setback is disruptive for the Delhi team, and I apologize for my absence at the beginning of this season. I remain committed to joining DC and will keep the team updated on my recovery progress,' Starc stated.
Last season, Starc was the second-highest wicket-taker for DC, securing 14 wickets in 11 matches. The Delhi Capitals are set to commence their campaign against LSG on April 1 in Lucknow.
