During a press conference before the final, Santner was asked about New Zealand's history of near-misses in ICC events and whether his team would embrace the role of 'bad guys' to 'break a billion hearts' in the final against India.

Santner responded by emphasizing that the Black Caps would not be daunted by the pressure or the home crowd's support for India. Instead, they would concentrate on executing their game plan and would not hesitate to 'break a few hearts' to secure the trophy.

"I wouldn't mind winning a trophy. Our group has been consistent, and we try not to be overwhelmed by the situation or our opponents. We focus on our game plan, and this time is no different," Santner stated.

"We know we might not be the favorites, but that doesn't concern us. If we perform well as a team, we can put ourselves in a good position to lift the trophy. I wouldn't mind breaking a few hearts to win it this time," he added.
