Mitchell Owen Joins Punjab Kings: A Game-Changer for IPL 2025?

Mitchell Owen Strengthens Punjab Kings Ahead of IPL Resumption
Jaipur: The Punjab Kings have officially announced the addition of all-rounder Mitchell Owen to their roster as they gear up for the IPL 2025's return this Friday.
Owen, who steps in as a replacement for the injured Glenn Maxwell, was acquired for Rs 3 crore to participate in the remainder of the tournament. With 34 T20 matches under his belt, he has amassed 646 runs, featuring two centuries and a top score of 108. Additionally, he has taken 10 wickets in T20 cricket. Prior to joining the IPL, he played for the Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL.
In his debut PSL season, Owen showcased his talent by scoring 102 runs across eight innings with an impressive strike rate of 192.45.
At just 23 years old, Owen went unsold during last year's IPL mega auction but made headlines this January by tying Craig Simmons’ record for the fastest century in Big Bash League history, scoring 108 runs off only 42 balls, including 11 sixes, leading the Hobart Hurricanes to their inaugural title.
Following his BBL success, he delivered a remarkable performance in the One-Day Cup, scoring 149 runs off 69 balls for Tasmania. His explosive batting has drawn attention from various franchises, resulting in contracts in both the SA20 and PSL.
Currently, the Punjab Kings are in a strong position with seven victories out of 11 matches, placing them third on the points table and in contention for the playoffs. They are set to face the Rajasthan Royals at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur this Sunday.
The Punjab squad has arrived in Jaipur and will resume training on Thursday.
In other news, Australian players Marcus Stoinis and wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis are anticipated to join the Punjab Kings for their upcoming match against the Delhi Capitals on May 24 in Jaipur, according to sources.
