Marsh's Explosive 90 Powers LSG Chase

In a thrilling encounter at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, Mitchell Marsh's blistering 90 off just 38 balls propelled the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to a seven-wicket victory against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) during their IPL 2026 match on Friday.

Marsh's remarkable innings, complemented by Nicholas Pooran's quickfire 32 off 17 balls and Josh Inglis' steady 36 off 32 balls, enabled LSG to successfully chase down a target of 188 with 20 balls to spare.

The chase was characterized by a stunning opening partnership between Marsh and Inglis, with Marsh leading the charge. He reached his half-century in a mere 21 balls, showcasing his dominance, particularly in the fifth over where he hit CSK's Anshul Kamboj for four consecutive sixes and a four, amassing 28 runs in that over. After five overs, LSG stood at an impressive 67 without loss.

By the end of the power play, LSG had surged to 86/0, effectively taking control of the match. Marsh continued his onslaught, and by the tenth over, LSG had reached 124/0, with Inglis providing crucial support.

Brief Scare for LSG

The opening duo put together a formidable 135-run partnership before Inglis was dismissed by Mukesh Choudhary, caught at deep backward point after scoring 36 runs off 32 balls. This wicket fell on the fifth ball of the 12th over.

Unfortunately for LSG, Marsh followed suit on the very next delivery. Nicholas Pooran's firm drive back to Choudhary deflected off the bowler's fingers and hit the stumps at the non-striker's end, catching Marsh out of his crease. He departed after a spectacular innings of 90 runs, which included seven sixes and nine fours, leaving LSG at 136/2 after 12 overs.

CSK briefly found an opening when Spencer Johnson dismissed Abdul Samad for 7 runs shortly after, but Pooran and Mukul Choudhary steadied the innings. With 24 runs needed from the last four overs, Pooran unleashed a flurry of four consecutive sixes off Kamboj, leading LSG to victory in 16.4 overs.

Kartik Sharma's 71 Steadies CSK Innings

Earlier in the match, CSK, batting first, had a solid start from openers Sanju Samson and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, who took the score to 20 without loss in the initial two overs.

However, the momentum shifted in the fourth over when LSG's Akash Singh struck, dismissing Gaikwad for 13 runs. He continued to wreak havoc, removing Samson for 20 runs in the sixth over, leaving CSK at 37/2.

Wickets continued to fall as Akash claimed his third wicket by sending Urvil Patel back for just six runs in the eighth over, putting CSK under pressure at 61/3. By the end of the tenth over, CSK had managed only 71 runs for three wickets.

Following the early setbacks, Kartik Sharma and Dewald Brevis steadied the innings, guiding CSK to 108/3 in 13 overs. Kartik reached his half-century off 35 balls, marking his second fifty of the season.

However, Mohammed Shami struck back, dismissing Brevis for 25 runs in the same over. On the final ball of the 16th over, Shahbaz Ahmed took a crucial wicket, sending Kartik Sharma back after a well-played 71 runs, leaving CSK at 142/5.

In the closing stages, Shivam Dube (32 not out off 16 balls) and Prashant Veer (13 not out) helped CSK finish at 187/5 in their 20 overs. For LSG, Akash Singh was the standout bowler with figures of 3/26, while Shami and Shahbaz also contributed with one wicket each.
