Mitchell Johnson, a celebrated cricketer known for his remarkable achievements, has won the Indian Premier League (IPL) twice with the Mumbai Indians in 2013 and 2017. As the tournament resumes a week later due to the ongoing Indo-Pak conflict, Johnson has advised Australian players, including Pat Cummins, to reconsider their return.

In a column for The Western Australian, Johnson emphasized the importance of player safety over financial incentives. He stated, 'While Cricket Australia allows players to make their own choices, the implications of those decisions can be significant. Choosing not to participate might lead to disappointment or future professional and financial consequences, but safety must come first.'

He further expressed, 'If I were faced with the decision to return to India for the tournament, my answer would be a definitive no. The safety of lives is paramount, far beyond monetary gains.'

Concerns Over IPL and PSL Continuation

Johnson also raised concerns regarding the Pakistan Super League (PSL), which is facing similar challenges in bringing back international players for its continuation.

He remarked, 'This is a personal choice. No one should feel pressured to return, even if the IPL and PSL are pushing for it. Both leagues should consider concluding their seasons or relocating, which could pose significant financial challenges.'

With the IPL final now rescheduled for June 3, just before the World Test Championship final at Lord's, Johnson pointed out the potential impact on players' preparations for this crucial match. He noted that South Africa seems to be taking a stricter stance with their players compared to Australia, which is intriguing given the financial connections between India and South Africa through the SA20 league.
