The silver medalist from the Tokyo Olympics achieved a total lift of 198kg, comprising 88kg in the snatch and 111kg in the clean and jerk, marking India's first weightlifting medal at the Asian Games since Karnam Malleswari's bronze in 1998.

North Korea's two-time world champion Ri Song Gum dominated the competition, lifting a total of 215kg (94kg in snatch and 121kg in clean and jerk) to secure gold and achieve a record-breaking third consecutive Asian Games title.

Chanu began her competition with an 83kg lift in the snatch, successfully progressing to 85kg and 87kg in her subsequent attempts, finishing the snatch segment in third place. She then delivered her best lift of 111kg in the clean and jerk, finally securing her place in Asian Games history after narrowly missing out in previous attempts.
