Mina Shirakawa Discusses Theme Song Controversy Following AEW Debut
Mina Shirakawa's AEW Journey Begins
Mina Shirakawa officially joined the All Elite Wrestling (AEW) roster in the spring of 2025 after several appearances with New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW). On her debut night as a full-time AEW wrestler, she was introduced with a new theme song. However, due to significant backlash on social media, the company reverted to her previous music during the same episode of Dynamite.
In a recent interview with Renee Paquette on AEW CloseUp, Mina addressed the uproar surrounding her entrance music. She expressed her desire for a fresh start upon her return to AEW, which included a new theme song crafted by a friend. Excited about the track, she was thrilled when AEW's Tony Khan approved it as her entrance music.
“So, for returning to AEW, AEW debut, I want to change something… My friend made me a song, a new song and so, I love that track. I love the song.”
Mina Shirakawa Reflects on Fan Reactions
After witnessing the audience's response, Mina realized that many fans preferred her original theme and were not in favor of the abrupt change. Following her match, she inquired with Tony Khan about the music switch and learned that he favored her old theme, which he felt better represented her style.
“So maybe I feel, oh, it was mistake. So after match, I asked Tony, ‘Oh, so my music, what happened?…’ He loved the old one. But I love both of music. But, maybe (the old song) is very Mina-style, very iconic…”
In her debut match as a full-time AEW competitor, Mina participated in a four-way contest alongside Women's World Champion 'Timeless' Toni Storm, AZM, and Skye Blue. Although she entered with a new theme, her old music played after her victory, following the fan backlash. This match also secured her a title opportunity.
