Mickey Arthur to Coach Rangpur Riders Remotely for 2025 Global Super League
Mickey Arthur's Remote Coaching for Rangpur Riders
Mickey Arthur will oversee the Rangpur Riders' title defense in the upcoming 2025 Global Super League from a distance. This announcement was made by Shanian Taneem, the director of Rangpur, who confirmed that Arthur will not be present in Guyana for the tournament.
The reason for his absence is his ongoing coaching contract with Derbyshire in the County Championship's Division Two, which requires him to remain in the UK while guiding the BPL franchise from approximately 7,500 kilometers away. The Global Super League is set to kick off on July 10, with Rangpur participating in the second match of the tournament. This T20 competition will feature teams such as Central Stags from the Super Smash, Dubai Capitals from ILT20, Guyana Amazon Warriors from CPL, and Hobart Hurricanes from BBL.
During a jersey unveiling event in Dhaka, Shanian announced that Greg Smith will take on the role of head coach, working closely with the team while Mickey maintains regular communication with both Greg and the players.
"Due to the ongoing English County Championship and Mickey's commitment to Derbyshire County Cricket Club, he is currently unavailable. Hence, we have appointed Greg Smith as our head coach. He is someone Mickey has complete trust in. Mickey will remain in touch with the players and continue to provide his insights. Greg will lead the team under Mickey's guidance,"
Rangpur will be captained by Nurul Hasan, who has held the captaincy since 2023. The team has retained players from the previous season, including Soumya Sarkar, Saif Hassan, Kamrul Islam Rabbi, and Harmeet Singh. The squad also includes international players such as Kyle Mayers, Tabraiz Shamsi, Iftikhar Ahmed, and Ibrahim Zadran.
