MI New York Triumphs Over Seattle Orcas

Oakland [US], June 19: In an exciting conclusion to a week of Major League Cricket (MLC) at the Oakland Coliseum, MI New York achieved their first victory of the 2025 season by defeating Seattle Orcas by 7 wickets. Monank Patel's impressive innings, complemented by a solid half-century from Michael Bracewell, helped New York successfully chase down a target of 200 runs.

After losing De Kock in the fifth over, Patel and Bracewell began their innings with caution. As the required run rate increased, Patel began to take calculated risks against a disciplined Orcas bowling attack, which suffered from a few missed opportunities in the field, including a challenging catch by skipper Klaasen. Patel's scoring accelerated dramatically, moving from 30 runs off 25 balls to 63 runs off the next 25, including a notable 19 runs from Harmeet Singh's second over.

Patel's remarkable performance (93 runs off 50 balls, featuring eight fours and seven sixes) was complemented by Bracewell, who contributed with an economical bowling performance of 20 runs for 1 wicket and a vital unbeaten half-century (50 runs off 35 balls, including three fours and three sixes) that proved essential in the final overs of the chase.

Earlier in the match, after winning the toss, the Orcas struggled initially as both David Warner and Aaron Jones were dismissed during the powerplay.

However, Kyle Mayers and Shayan Jahangir (43 runs off 34 balls, with three fours and three sixes) formed a strong partnership that guided the innings. While Jahangir kept the scoreboard ticking, Mayers unleashed his power, scoring 88 runs, including 10 sixes and 3 fours, setting a formidable target, further supported by quick contributions from Klaasen and Hetmyer.

Both teams will head to Dallas next, where MI New York will face Washington Freedom on Saturday, while Seattle Orcas will take on LA Knight Riders on Sunday in search of their first win this season.
