MI New York Clinches MLC 2025 Title with Rushil Ugarkar's Heroic Final Over

Thrilling Conclusion to MLC 2025 Final
In an exhilarating finish to the MLC 2025 Final, MI New York (MINY) secured their second championship, thanks to a remarkable final over delivered by 22-year-old Rushil Ugarkar. He showcased remarkable composure against the formidable batting duo of Glenn Maxwell and Glenn Phillips.
As Washington Freedom entered the last over needing 12 runs, they appeared to have the upper hand. Phillips had just smashed 35 runs off 14 balls, and Maxwell was yet to bat. However, Ugarkar, a medium-pacer without international experience, executed a brilliant over filled with slow cutters and precision. He dismissed Maxwell on his first delivery and allowed Phillips just one run, restricting the pair to a mere six runs and clinching a stunning victory for MI New York.
Freedom's chase began poorly, with Trent Boult taking out two batsmen in the first over. Despite a valiant 70 runs off 41 balls from Rachin Ravindra and a quick 33 from Jack Edwards, the middle overs proved challenging. The partnership between Ravindra and Phillips, which yielded 46 runs, took 42 balls—possibly the moment Freedom lost their grip on the match.
Maxwell, who had a lackluster tournament aside from a single century, failed to accelerate the scoring. MINY's bowling lineup, led by Tajinder Singh (3-0-18-0) and Ugarkar, maintained pressure throughout the innings.
Earlier, MINY had established a strong total, driven by Quinton de Kock's impressive 77 runs off 46 balls, along with valuable contributions from Monank Patel and Nicholas Pooran. Although Freedom made a late attempt to recover, the total proved just enough.
In a match filled with international stars, it was the young and relatively unknown Rushil Ugarkar who rose to the occasion, delivering one of the most memorable overs in MLC history and leading MI New York to their second title in spectacular fashion.
