India's U19 Team Set for Asia Cup Challenge
New Delhi: Rising star Ayush Mhatre has been confirmed as the captain of a 15-member Indian squad for the upcoming U19 Asia Cup, where all eyes will be on the young batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
This continental tournament is set to take place in Dubai from December 12 to 21, featuring matches in a 50-over format.
Mhatre previously led the Indian team during a multi-format tour in Australia in September and October.
Vihaan Malhotra has been named vice-captain for this tournament, which will also serve as a crucial preparation for the U19 World Cup scheduled in Zimbabwe and Namibia in January-February next year.
Sooryavanshi, just 14 years old, recently made headlines in the Rising Stars Asia Cup by scoring a remarkable 32-ball century, marking the joint third-fastest in men's T20 history, with an impressive 144 runs off just 42 balls against the UAE.
Kishan Kumar Singh has been included in the squad, pending fitness confirmation, as stated by the BCCI.
India will kick off their campaign against an opponent yet to be determined on December 12, followed by a match against Pakistan on December 14, and another qualifier on December 16.
The semifinals are set for December 19, with the final taking place two days later on December 21.
