Meet Sachin Behera: The Record-Breaking 'Knee Striker of India'
A Remarkable Achievement in Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar: Sachin Behera, famously dubbed the ‘Knee Striker of India’, hails from Larka village in Odisha’s Nuapada district. He has achieved an impressive record by executing 146 full-contact knee strikes with both legs in just 60 seconds, all while wearing 1 kg ankle weights on each leg.
This remarkable accomplishment has earned him recognition from both the India Book of Records and the Asia Book of Records, with certificates presented on October 24.
The record was set on September 10 at Overall Sports Academy in Bhubaneswar, under the supervision of an expert witness, a professional pad holder, and an official timekeeper.
Verification of the record included video evidence and supporting documents, with confirmation received on September 26.
With this latest achievement, Behera has now secured a hat-trick of records in the knee-strike category acknowledged by both record-keeping organizations.
His previous records include 103 one-leg knee strikes in a minute while wearing 1 kg ankle weights on each leg, and 88 one-leg knee strikes in a minute with 5 kg ankle weights.
Coming from a farming background, Behera dedicated months to training, practicing between 3,000 and 5,000 kicks and knee strikes daily.
Suryabanshi Suraj, the Minister of Higher Education, Sports, and Youth Services in Odisha, extended his congratulations to Behera for this outstanding achievement.
Behera holds a Bachelor of Physiotherapy from Hi-Tech Medical College and Hospital in Bhubaneswar and is currently pursuing a Master of Physiotherapy in Orthopaedics at the same institution.
He has dedicated this record to Dr. Tripati Panigrahi, the chairman of Hi-Tech Group of Institutions.
Behera first made headlines in 2019 when he entered the Guinness World Records by performing 137 knee strikes using both legs in a minute, followed by two more records in 2022.
