Mayank Yadav Set to Rejoin Lucknow Super Giants After Injury Recovery
Mayank Yadav Returns to Lucknow Super Giants
Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], April 14: Mayank Yadav, the fast bowler for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), is expected to rejoin the team on Tuesday following his recovery from an injury, as reported by a sports news outlet.
He is anticipated to participate in LSG's upcoming match against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Saturday in Jaipur. His return is a significant advantage for LSG, who began the tournament without his services.
Initially, Avesh Khan and Akash Deep were also absent at the start of the season but have since made their comeback. Mohsin Khan, however, faced an injury that sidelined him for the competition, leading to all-rounder Shardul Thakur stepping in as his replacement.
Despite facing challenges with a weakened pace attack, LSG has managed to secure victories in four out of six matches played so far.
The 22-year-old Mayank had been sidelined due to a back injury since October 2024, when he made his international debut, participating in three T20Is against Bangladesh. His injury prevented him from playing in the entire domestic season, and he underwent rehabilitation at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
Just a week ago, LSG's head coach Justin Langer reviewed footage of Mayank bowling at "90 to 95 percent" efficiency and confirmed that the pacer would soon rejoin the LSG squad.
Mayank's 2024 season has been marred by injuries. He gained recognition with two 'Player of the Match' awards in his first three IPL games, showcasing his impressive pace exceeding 150 mph and precise bowling. Unfortunately, he suffered an abdominal injury that kept him out of the tournament. After recovering at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), he encountered another injury while training.
In his debut IPL season, he took seven wickets in four matches. Meanwhile, Thakur, LSG's most seasoned bowler, ranks second among the top wicket-takers with 11 wickets in six matches. Additionally, spinner Digvesh Rathi has emerged as a valuable asset for the team this season, claiming eight wickets in seven matches.
