Mayank Yadav's Comeback to LSG

Mayank Yadav Returns to Lucknow Super Giants: What This Means for IPL 2025

New Delhi: The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have received a significant boost with the return of fast bowler Mayank Yadav. The 22-year-old is expected to be ready for LSG's upcoming match against the Rajasthan Royals this Saturday.

LSG celebrated Mayank's comeback by sharing a special video on their social media platforms, captioned, "Mayank Yadav is back!"

Mayank had been recovering from a back injury and was on the verge of returning earlier this season when he suffered a toe injury after stubbing it against his bed, leading to an infection that further delayed his comeback.

The young bowler, who made his international debut last year in three T20Is against Bangladesh, missed the entire domestic season and underwent rehabilitation at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

Previously, LSG's head coach Justin Langer expressed optimism about Mayank's recovery, stating, "Mayank is up and running, which is fantastic for Indian cricket and the IPL. I saw some footage of him bowling yesterday at the NCA, and he was clocking about 90 to 95%."

Last season, Mayank made a significant impact in the IPL with his impressive pace and wicket-taking skills, consistently reaching speeds over 150 km/h. He participated in only four matches for LSG last season and was among the five players retained before the mega auction.

His return is crucial for LSG, who have been managing a severely weakened bowling lineup since the start of IPL 2025.

The injury crisis for LSG began before the season opener, with Mohsin Khan, Mayank, Avesh Khan, and Akash Deep all unavailable. The franchise brought in veteran Shardul Thakur to strengthen the bowling attack, which has proven beneficial. Avesh and Akash Deep have since rejoined the squad and played five and three matches, respectively.

Despite their injury challenges, LSG has managed to secure fifth place in the standings with four victories in seven games. They are set to face the Rajasthan Royals this Saturday in Jaipur.
