Mayank Yadav Out of IPL 2024 Due to Injury; Will O'Rourke Steps In
Mayank Yadav's Injury Announcement
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) fast bowler Mayank Yadav will not participate in the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season due to an injury.
The IPL's official website confirmed this news through a statement. The 22-year-old player is dealing with a back injury.
"Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have signed New Zealand pacer William O'Rourke as a replacement for Mayank Yadav due to injury," the statement noted.
"Yadav has been ruled out for the rest of the season because of his back injury," it further explained.
O'Rourke will join the team at a reserve price of ₹3 crore.
Details on Mayank Yadav's Injury
After returning to the IPL following an injury from his international debut series against Bangladesh last October, Mayank participated in two matches, claiming two wickets, with his best performance being 2/40 against the Mumbai Indians (MI).
He had a challenging outing against PBKS, conceding 60 runs in a four-over spell without taking a wicket.
Yadav missed the entire domestic season due to a back injury sustained during the series and underwent rehabilitation at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
His 2024 season has been marred by injuries. After making a name for himself with two 'Player of the Match' awards in his first three IPL games, where he impressed with his consistent pace exceeding 150 mph, he faced an abdominal injury that sidelined him from the tournament.
Following recovery at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), he unfortunately sustained another injury while bowling.
In his debut IPL season, he managed to take seven wickets across four matches.
William O'Rourke's Background
O'Rourke has represented New Zealand in five T20 International matches, securing five wickets with an average of 28.60.
In total, he has played 38 T20 matches, taking 37 wickets at an average of 26.05.
