Maxwell's IPL 2025 Campaign Cut Short Due to Injury
Maxwell's Injury Forces Him Out of IPL 2025
The IPL 2025 journey for Glenn Maxwell has ended prematurely as he has sustained an injury that will keep him sidelined for the remainder of the tournament. Initially thought to be regaining his form, Maxwell was anticipated to participate in the upcoming match for Punjab Kings against Chennai Super Kings. However, team captain Shreyas Iyer has confirmed that Maxwell will not be taking the field due to his injury, and a replacement has yet to be named.
During the toss, Captain Shreyas Iyer stated, “It’s unfortunate that Maxwell has a fractured finger. We haven’t decided on a replacement yet.”
Maxwell was absent from the training session at Chepauk and did not participate in any pre-match activities, confirming his unavailability. Despite struggling with his batting this season, he has remained a key player for Punjab Kings. Before the match against CSK, he had played in 7 out of 8 matches, accumulating only 48 runs across 6 innings, averaging 8.00 with a strike rate of 97.95.
His bowling, however, has been more effective. Partnering with Yuzvendra Chahal, he played a crucial role in defending a modest total of 112 runs, significantly impacting KKR's performance. Maxwell has taken 4 wickets in 6 innings at an impressive economy rate of 8.46 runs per over, making him a valuable asset with the ball. His presence could have posed a challenge for the left-handed batsmen of CSK on the spin-friendly Chepauk pitch.

With Maxwell's exit, Punjab Kings are now on the lookout for a suitable replacement. Under Shreyas Iyer's leadership, the team is still vying for a playoff spot and requires a well-rounded squad to remain competitive. Following the injury to Lockie Ferguson, the team is running low on options. For the upcoming match against CSK, Iyer is considering bringing in Azmatullah Omarzai and Suryansh Shedge.
