Max Verstappen Secures Fourth Consecutive Victory at Japanese Grand Prix
Verstappen Triumphs at Suzuka
SUZUKA, April 6
Max Verstappen, the reigning world champion, overcame a challenging start to the season by clinching his fourth consecutive victory at the Japanese Grand Prix on Sunday. He successfully fended off the strong competition from McLaren, marking his first win of the year.
Driving his Red Bull, Verstappen crossed the finish line to a roaring applause from the 115,000 spectators, finishing 1.4 seconds ahead of Lando Norris, the championship leader from McLaren, who secured second place. “I’m extremely pleased. This weekend began on a difficult note, but we persevered and enhanced the car’s performance. Today, it was at its peak,” Verstappen remarked, becoming the first driver to achieve four consecutive wins at Suzuka.
Norris’s advantage over Verstappen in the drivers’ championship was reduced to just one point following a race that was largely determined during Saturday’s qualifying.
“It was a relentless race from start to finish, quite challenging, but we just couldn’t match Max today; we didn’t have anything special to overtake him,” Norris stated, who had previously won the season opener in Melbourne.
Oscar Piastri, competing in the second McLaren and celebrating his 24th birthday, completed the podium in third place, as the top six drivers maintained their starting positions throughout the race.
