Berrettini's Impressive Return to Rome

Rome [Italy], May 10 (News Media): Italian tennis star Matteo Berrettini delivered a remarkable performance in front of his home fans at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia, securing a win against Jacob Fearnley during the Italian Open.

Making his first appearance in Rome since 2021, Berrettini triumphed with a score of 6-4, 7-6(0), advancing to the tournament's third round. After falling behind at 3-5, he staged a commendable comeback, saving two set points and clinching the match after one hour and 55 minutes of intense play.

Previously at the Madrid Open, Berrettini had to withdraw in the third round due to an abdominal injury. However, he returned to Rome determined and showcased an outstanding performance.

Next, Berrettini will face Casper Ruud, the Madrid champion, who maintained his excellent form with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 victory over Alexander Bublik. Ruud has now extended his winning streak to seven matches and aims to continue his success in Rome, where he has reached the semi-finals three times before.

“It feels great. I’m not sure how to describe this match. There were many ups and downs, side to side. When Sascha starts his game, it becomes quite a spectacle, so you just try to stay focused,” Ruud commented, as reported by ATP.com.

“He always makes spectacular shots, which can be a bit frustrating for us opponents. Overall, I’m pleased to have made it through a challenging three-set match. It’s never easy against Sascha; we had a tough encounter here in Rome a couple of years ago, so I’m glad to have won today,” he added.

In other matches, Marcos Giron defeated fourth seed Taylor Fritz with a score of 7-6(4), 7-6(3), advancing to the third round. The 31-year-old Giron was down 0-4 in the second set but rallied to secure a remarkable victory in a match lasting one hour and 45 minutes.
