Boucher's Assurance on Kohli's Future

Mark Boucher, the former cricketer from South Africa, expressed his strong belief that Virat Kohli will participate in the 2027 ODI World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. He emphasized that Kohli's fitness is not a concern, leaving the choice of participation solely in the hands of the Indian batsman.

Kohli's Importance to Team India

In a conversation with a news outlet in Paarl, Boucher conveyed his confidence in Kohli's involvement in the upcoming World Cup, stating that the decision hinges on Kohli's willingness to continue playing. He highlighted the significance of Kohli's experience, especially in light of the absence of senior players like Kohli and Rohit Sharma, which creates a noticeable gap in the team.

Boucher's Comments on India's Needs

"Virat will definitely be there. I have no doubts about it. Although he has stepped back from a couple of formats, his fitness is not an issue. It all comes down to whether he wants to play. I believe he is focused on participating in another World Cup, and India certainly needs him. The absence of both Rohit and Virat has been felt in Test cricket, and having Kohli in the World Cup in South Africa would enhance the tournament. It would be fantastic for India if he plays," Boucher remarked.

Kohli's Recent ODI Performance

Despite retiring from Test and T20 formats, Virat Kohli has shown remarkable form in One Day Internationals (ODIs). Following a challenging period where he recorded two consecutive ducks in Australia in October 2025, Kohli has rebounded impressively. In his last six 50-over matches, which include four ODIs and two Vijay Hazare Trophy games, he has not scored below 50 runs, achieving three fifties and three centuries.

During the recent three-match ODI series against South Africa in November-December, Kohli's scores were impressive: 135, 102, and an unbeaten 65.
