There is speculation that Mariah May's move to WWE may not solely be motivated by financial incentives. Instead, her primary goal has always been to join the WWE roster, and she might have earned more had she remained with AEW.

Currently, Mariah May may still be under contract with AEW, but she has not appeared on their programming recently. Her anticipated transition to WWE is not driven by a higher salary. According to a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer confirmed that her AEW contract is still active, but her departure seems imminent.

Meltzer emphasized that financial considerations were not the main factor in her decision to switch to WWE. He noted that Mariah May has been strategic in enhancing her profile since arriving in the U.S. in 2023, aiming for a position at WWE.

“She played it really smart. She got TV time, visibility, good matches, got over, and raised her stock. WWE was always the goal.”

Meltzer also suggested that AEW could have offered a more lucrative deal than WWE if financial gain was her priority. However, for May, the focus has always been on pursuing her dream of working with WWE, a goal she has had since her early career tryout with the company.

“Honestly, I think if Tony Khan made her an offer today, it’d probably be more than what WWE’s offering — but it’s not about that for her. She’s not going where the money is highest; she’s going where she always wanted to be. She wanted WWE from the beginning.”

Despite her ongoing contract with AEW, WWE is already preparing for her arrival. It appears that Mariah May will officially part ways with AEW in the early summer, and once her contract concludes, she aims to establish her legacy in WWE.

Nearly four months after her last appearance on AEW television, Mariah May seems poised to join WWE. Although there has been no official announcement from either party, her absence from the AEW roster suggests her departure is on the horizon.
