Manchester, May 14: In a commanding display, Manchester City narrowed the gap to Arsenal at the top of the Premier League to just two points following a decisive 3-0 victory against Crystal Palace.
City showcased their dominance throughout the match, with only a few counter-attacks from Palace interrupting their flow. The first half concluded with goals from Antoine Semenyo and Omar Marmoush, giving Pep Guardiola’s squad a comfortable two-goal advantage.
Late in the game, Savinho added a third goal, sealing a satisfying evening for City as they prepare for the upcoming FA Cup final against Chelsea.
City will be hoping for a significant favor from Burnley against Arsenal, and they currently hold a superior goal difference compared to the Gunners, should the title race take another turn. Meanwhile, Palace remains in 15th place with 44 points.
City nearly found themselves behind early on when Jean-Phillippe Mateta’s shot crossed the line, but an offside call prevented Palace from taking the lead.
Despite several changes in the lineup, City struggled to find their rhythm initially against a Palace team that opted to defend in numbers.
As heavy rain fell at the Etihad, the first half-hour passed without significant events. However, in the 32nd minute, a clever back-heeled pass from Phil Foden set up Antoine Semenyo, who scored with a precise low shot, putting City ahead.
This marked Foden's 100th involvement in a Premier League goal, and just eight minutes later, he assisted Josko Gvardiol’s cross, allowing Omar Marmoush to score from close range, doubling the lead to 2-0.
The impressive Gvardiol nearly added to the tally with a powerful header, but Dean Henderson made a fantastic save just before halftime, concluding a lively first half for City.
In control and persistently attacking, City sought a third goal but struggled to create clear chances.
Both teams made numerous substitutions, including a warm reception for John Stones, whose name echoed around the Etihad. The match seemed to be heading towards a comfortable finish.
However, Rayan Cherki had other plans. Just moments after coming on, his forward run and perfectly timed pass found Savinho, who calmly slotted the ball past Henderson, securing the victory.
