Manav Suthar Praises Shubman Gill's Leadership in IPL 2026
Suthar's Take on Shubman Gill's Captaincy
Manav Suthar, a spinner for the Gujarat Titans (GT), has expressed admiration for Shubman Gill's leadership skills. He highlighted Gill's strategic insight, effective communication with bowlers, and his ability to foster a relaxed atmosphere within the team. When asked about Gill's role as a potential 'bowling skipper', Suthar noted that Gill has excelled in managing the bowling lineup and establishing intelligent field placements during tense moments. 'His leadership is commendable; the way he guides the team and interacts with players is impressive. Recently in IPL 2026, we managed to keep LSG under 170 runs and won the match comfortably. Gill's field placements and support for the bowlers are exceptional,' Suthar remarked.
Coach Ashish Nehra's Simplistic Approach
Suthar also countered claims that Ashish Nehra, the head coach of GT, creates pressure with his high-energy presence in the dugout. He emphasized that the environment remains straightforward and encouraging. Nehra is known for his animated demeanor during matches, often stepping out to engage with the game closely. However, Suthar clarified that Nehra's focus is on maintaining simplicity, which is crucial in cricket. 'It's not as it seems. Coach Ashish sir has made it a point to keep things uncomplicated, which greatly benefits the team,' Suthar stated.
A Close-Knit Team Atmosphere
When asked about who lightens the mood in the dressing room during the IPL season, Suthar mentioned that the team operates as a cohesive unit rather than depending on one person. 'There isn't a specific individual responsible for that. Everyone supports one another, sharing both the highs and lows like a family,' he added.
Manav Suthar's IPL Career
Suthar was retained by the Gujarat Titans for ₹30 lakh in the last IPL auction. Previously, he was acquired for ₹30 lakh in 2025 and ₹20 lakh in 2024. Earlier in his career, he contributed as a net bowler during the team's victorious 2022 campaign. Suthar made his IPL debut for the Gujarat Titans in May 2024 against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Gujarat Titans' Recent Performance
After starting IPL 2026 with two losses against Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals, Gujarat Titans rebounded with a thrilling one-run victory over Delhi Capitals and a convincing seven-wicket win against Lucknow Super Giants. Their upcoming match is against the three-time champions KKR at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday.
