Manav Suthar Credits Ashwin and Jadeja for Spin Bowling Insights Ahead of IPL Clash
Learning from the Masters
Manav Suthar, an emerging talent from the Gujarat Titans (GT), has acknowledged the significant influence of senior Indian cricketers Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja on his spin bowling skills. In a recent interview, he reflected on his experiences with the India A team and international tours to England and South Africa, where he engaged in valuable discussions with these seasoned spinners.
The 23-year-old left-arm spinner emphasized that one of the most important lessons he learned was the necessity of maintaining consistency in line and length, a hallmark of both Ashwin and Jadeja's successful careers. "Yes, I've had conversations with Ashwin Bhaiya and Jaddu (Jadeja) Bhai. During my time with India A and our tours to England and South Africa, they shared crucial insights on spin bowling, particularly the importance of being consistent in your line and length. The more you can bowl accurately at one spot, the more effective you become. I've had numerous discussions with them," Suthar stated.
Focus on All-Round Development
At just 23 years old, Suthar boasts an impressive record in First-Class cricket. Across 29 matches and 52 innings, he has taken 129 wickets with an average of 25.76, including six five-wicket hauls and three ten-wicket matches. Earlier this year, he achieved his first First-Class century while playing for Rajasthan against Himachal Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy 2025-26.
When asked about the significance of batting practice, Suthar explained that his training is tailored to match situations. "Whenever I get the opportunity to bat, especially during the ongoing IPL 2026, I focus on what is crucial for the match context, such as my batting position. My aim is to work diligently on these aspects," he shared.
Confidence in Growth as an All-Rounder
Suthar expressed his determination to evolve into a well-rounded cricketer, actively striving to become a valuable all-round option for India's white-ball team in the future. "Absolutely. I've been dedicated to improving my batting over the past 3-4 years. My goal is to contribute significantly with the bat, which will benefit the team and enhance our chances of winning. I remain focused on excelling in all three areas to support the team," he affirmed.
IPL Journey and Team's Form
Manav Suthar was retained by the Gujarat Titans for ₹30 lakh in the previous IPL auction. He was initially acquired for ₹30 lakh in 2025 and ₹20 lakh in 2024. Before making his debut, he served as a net bowler during the team's victorious 2022 season. Suthar made his IPL debut for the Gujarat Titans in May 2024 against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
After starting the IPL 2026 season with losses against Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals, Gujarat Titans rebounded with a thrilling one-run victory over Delhi Capitals and a comfortable seven-wicket win against Lucknow Super Giants. Their upcoming match is against the three-time champions KKR at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday.
