Excitement Builds for Malaysia Open 2026

The Malaysia Open 2026 is generating significant buzz as the event approaches, with organizers encouraging early registrations ahead of the June 5 deadline. During the launch event, Pattrik Ting, the general manager of Oriental Daily News, noted a surge in entries, particularly in the doubles categories, highlighting the sport's increasing popularity among both casual and competitive players.

"We have received numerous team registrations, especially for doubles. With just 51 days remaining until the registration closes on June 5, we encourage everyone to sign up promptly," Ting stated. The tournament is set to take place from June 12 to 14 at the Grand Pickleball Arena, aiming to become one of the premier pickleball events in Malaysia this year.

Organizers are optimistic that a combination of competitive play and community involvement will enhance the tournament's profile within Malaysia's evolving sports scene. A significant attraction is the prize pool, which exceeds RM70,000 (approximately Rs 1,661,086). Ting expressed confidence that this financial incentive, along with the event's scale, would draw a robust participant field.

"With RM70,000 in prizes, we believe it will encourage strong participation and elevate the tournament's status. We have four main categories catering to various skill levels," he added. The competition is designed to accommodate a diverse range of players, featuring Junior, Novice, Intermediate, and Open divisions to ensure inclusivity across different ages and skill sets.

In addition to the prize money, participants can look forward to various rewards, including sponsored gear and lifestyle products. "Beyond cash prizes, there will be shoes, eye massagers, and other exciting giveaways," Ting mentioned.

To ensure fairness and competitive balance, the tournament will utilize the Baseline system integrated with the Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating (DUPR) to accurately assess player skills and categorize them appropriately. "We are implementing the Baseline system with DUPR ratings, which will help place players in the right level of competition," he explained.

The event also highlights the growing commercial and media interest in pickleball within Malaysia. Ting pointed out the extensive digital reach of Oriental Daily News, which can significantly enhance the tournament's visibility. "Oriental Daily News is more than just a news outlet. Our social media platforms—Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok—have a substantial and expanding audience in Malaysia," he noted.

In March alone, the publication achieved over 700 million views on Facebook, 140 million on Instagram, and 69 million on TikTok. "These figures demonstrate our potential reach, which will help boost readership across Malaysia and increase visibility for our sponsors and advertisers," he added.

The Malaysia Open 2026 is backed by a strong roster of partners, including redONE Mobile and Sri Kota Specialist Medical Centre as gold sponsors, with RHB Insurance as the official insurance partner and Honda Malaysia as the official car partner. Media support comes from various outlets, including Malay Mail, The Sun, Borneo Post, Utusan Borneo, and See Hua Daily, further enhancing the event's national visibility.

Participants will also enjoy additional benefits, such as goodie bags valued at over RM130, complimentary refreshments, and shuttle services provided by Honda Malaysia from the parking area to the venue. More than just a competition, the Malaysia Open 2026 is being positioned as a celebration of sport and community, showcasing pickleball's growing presence in Malaysia and its ability to unite players from diverse backgrounds through shared competition and camaraderie.
