Chwalinska's Remarkable Journey

Maja Chwalinska's incredible journey at Roland Garros reached a new milestone on Thursday night as she triumphed over Diana Shnaider, becoming the first player in the tournament's history to reach the women's singles final after starting from the qualifying rounds. Chwalinska is now set to compete against Mirra Andreeva for her first Grand Slam title.

The 24-year-old secured her spot in the championship match by defeating the No. 25 seed, Diana Shnaider, with a score of 7-6(4), 6-4 in a semifinal that lasted 2 hours and 10 minutes. This victory marks a historic achievement as Chwalinska is the first qualifier to reach the women's singles final at Roland Garros. Additionally, she is only the third woman to reach the final in her main-draw debut in Paris, following Evonne Goolagong in 1971 and Chris Evert in 1973.

Chwalinska Reflects on Her Dream Run

"It feels like a dream, honestly. I’m not sure what’s happening. I’m just really happy. Competing against the best players in the world every day is challenging, but it’s a Grand Slam, so you have to give everything you have and more. I have no complaints," Chwalinska expressed, as reported by the WTA Tour.

Entering the tournament with a career-high ranking of World No. 113, Chwalinska is now on the verge of breaking into the Top 20. This upcoming match will be her first encounter with Andreeva and also her first time facing a Top 10 opponent.

"I’ve already played nine matches here, so there are no secrets left. I did watch Mirra play a bit before our match, and her performance was incredible. This is just another great experience for me, and I will definitely give it my all. It’s a Grand Slam final," she added.

Andreeva's Path to the Final

On the other hand, Mirra Andreeva halted Marta Kostyuk's impressive 17-match winning streak to secure her place in the final at Roland Garros, becoming the third-youngest player this century to reach the title match at the French Open.

The No. 8 seed, Andreeva, needed only 76 minutes to defeat No. 15 seed Marta Kostyuk with a score of 6-1, 6-3, effectively ending the Ukrainian's winning streak.
