A New Era for Pickleball in Maharashtra

During the launch, MPA President Rahool Kanal remarked, "Pickleball in Maharashtra is at a pivotal moment, and the Maharashtra Open 2026 is central to this growth. In our first month alone, we welcomed over 750 members, and now we are hosting a PWR-certified championship with 1,000 participants and top-tier athletes. This is just the beginning; we aim to establish Maharashtra as the leading hub for pickleball in India, district by district."

Government Support and Future Vision

Ashish Shelar emphasized Maharashtra's historical leadership in sports and culture, stating, "Pickleball is a valuable addition to our legacy. Hosting a globally certified championship with 1,000 participants in its inaugural year is a significant achievement for the MPA. The Government of Maharashtra fully supports this initiative, and I am eager to see our champions represent the state at the National Championship and beyond."

Growth of Pickleball in Maharashtra

The Maharashtra Open 2026 marks a significant milestone for both the IPA and the newly established MPA, which has already gained over 750 members in its first month, showcasing the increasing popularity of pickleball in the region. Under Rahool Kanal's leadership, the association aims to boost the number of active players across various districts and promote pickleball in Tier-2 and Tier-3 areas, aspiring to make Maharashtra a powerhouse for the sport in India.
