Carlsen's Triumph at Norway Chess

Stavanger, Norway - On June 7, Magnus Carlsen, the reigning world champion, celebrated his seventh victory at the Norway Chess tournament. Following his win, he acknowledged the impressive skills of Indian chess prodigies D Gukesh and Arjun Erigaisi, stating they are "very good" but still require some time for further development.

In the final round, Carlsen's match against Arjun concluded in a draw. The championship was ultimately determined by the outcome of Gukesh's game against American Grandmaster Fabiano Caruana. Caruana's victory over Gukesh allowed Carlsen to secure the championship title.

Carlsen wrapped up the tournament with a total of 16 points, while Caruana followed closely with 15.5 points, and Gukesh finished third with 14.5 points. Arjun Erigaisi, who performed admirably throughout the event, ended in fifth place with 13 points.

After the tournament, Carlsen expressed his satisfaction, saying, "I feel great. Winning this tournament is a relief. It was quite a rollercoaster, but I'm happy with the outcome." He also praised Gukesh and Arjun's potential, noting that they still need time to refine their skills. Reflecting on his loss to Gukesh, Carlsen remarked that it was a memorable game, despite his visible frustration during the match, which gained attention on social media.

"Both Gukesh and Arjun are very talented, but they still need a bit more preparation. Meanwhile, there’s another tournament happening in Armenia where Pragg (R Praggnanandhaa) and Aravindh Chithambaram are showcasing excellent chess. Although my game against Gukesh isn't a positive memory, it’s certainly one that will stick with me," Carlsen added.
