Madhya Pradesh League Returns to Gwalior with Exciting New Features
Madhya Pradesh League Set to Kick Off in Gwalior
The Madhya Pradesh League (MPL) is gearing up for its new season, which will begin on June 12 at the Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium located in Shankarpur, Gwalior.
This year, the MPL has moved from Indore to Gwalior due to the impending monsoon in Indore and the delayed conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Gwalior is familiar territory for the MPL, having hosted its inaugural season last year. Initially, the league was scheduled to start on May 27 in Indore, coinciding with the IPL's earlier planned end on May 25.
Organized by the Gwalior Division Cricket Association (GDCA) under the auspices of the MP Cricket Association, the men's league has expanded from five to seven teams this season, welcoming new teams from the Bundelkhand and Chambal regions, as stated in an MPL release.
Chairman Mahanaaryaman Scindia expressed enthusiasm about returning to Gwalior, noting, "Gwalior holds a special place in the hearts of our players and fans, and we are thrilled to return here. With two new men's teams and the introduction of our inaugural Women’s League, we’re proud to expand opportunities for talent across Madhya Pradesh."
MPL CEO Ravi Patankar confirmed that all logistical arrangements for the venue change have been successfully finalized. He added, "With the new start date firmly in place, we look forward to delivering an exciting and seamless tournament for players and fans alike."
A jersey unveiling ceremony is scheduled for May 27 in Gwalior. This season will also introduce a Women’s Cricket League, which will run concurrently with the men's matches, featuring three teams, including one from the capital city, Bhopal.
Men's teams include: Gwalior Cheetahs, Bhopal Leopards, Jabalpur Royal Lions, Rewa Jaguars, Indore Pink Panthers, Chambal Ghariyals, and Bundelkhand Bulls.
Women's teams consist of: Chambal Ghariyals, Bhopal Wolves, and Bundelkhand Bulls.
