Madan Lal Applauds Bhuvneshwar Kumar's Comeback and Harmanpreet Kaur's Leadership Transition
Madan Lal on Bhuvneshwar Kumar's Recall
Former Indian cricketer Madan Lal expressed his support for Bhuvneshwar Kumar's return to the national team, highlighting the pacer's impressive performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and his skill in generating movement with the ball. This ability, he noted, makes Bhuvneshwar a potent wicket-taker in T20 matches. After a hiatus since the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final against England, the 36-year-old has been called back to represent India in five T20Is against New Zealand starting October 22. Over his career, Bhuvneshwar has participated in 229 matches, securing 294 wickets with an average of 29.50, which includes seven five-wicket hauls. His resurgence with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has been notable, where he took 45 wickets in 31 matches at an average of 22.55 and an economy rate of 8.52, contributing to the franchise's consecutive titles in 2025 and 2026. In the 2026 IPL season, he was the second-highest wicket-taker, claiming 28 wickets in 16 matches at an average of 17.89 and an economy rate of 7.95.
Madan Lal on Harmanpreet's Captaincy Decision
Madan Lal also commended Harmanpreet Kaur for stepping down as captain of the Indian women's cricket team across all formats. Her decision follows her successful leadership in securing a gold medal for India at the 2026 Asian Games. Smriti Mandhana will take over the captaincy during the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe starting October 16. Madan Lal congratulated Harmanpreet for her significant contributions to women's cricket, stating that her decision to pass the captaincy to Mandhana was timely and well-considered. "Congratulations to Harmanpreet Kaur for her remarkable achievements. She has elevated women's cricket significantly. I believe she made the right choice in transitioning the captaincy to Smriti Mandhana at this moment," he remarked.
Madan Lal on Salute Tiranga Cricket League
During the STCL Players Draft event, Madan Lal emphasized the importance of the Salute Tiranga Cricket League as a platform for young cricketers to demonstrate their skills. He noted that strong performances could lead to recognition from mentors and selectors, potentially opening doors to academies or state-level teams. "The Salute Tiranga Cricket League offers youngsters a chance to showcase their talent. Their future in cricket depends on their performance. If they excel, mentors and selectors will take notice, and if they are good enough, they might be recommended for an academy or state-level team. However, it's crucial for them to focus on performing well first," he stated.
