Lyra Valkyria Reflects on Winning WWE's Inaugural Women's Intercontinental Championship

Since joining the WWE Raw roster last summer, Lyra Valkyria has emerged as a standout talent among the female wrestlers. Earlier this year, she was honored as the first-ever Women’s Intercontinental Champion, a testament to WWE's confidence in her abilities. Interestingly, Valkyria was unaware that she would win the title until the tournament was underway.

During a key match on January 13 at the SAP Center in San Jose, California, she triumphed over Dakota Kai to secure the Women’s Intercontinental Championship. This victory not only marked her first title in WWE but also a significant milestone as she became the inaugural champion.

Reflecting on her nearly 150-day reign, Valkyria shared her surprise at winning the championship during a recent episode of Insight with Chris Van Vliet. She revealed that she was not informed about the decision until just before her entrance.

“I never was a part of that conversation. I just find out on Mondays what I’m doing. I found out the day of. I was never a part of the decision or the conversation. I just showed up to work.”

Emotional Reflections on Her Championship Win

Valkyria elaborated on her emotions following her historic title win, explaining that the significance of the moment didn't fully register until later. It was only after she began traveling with the championship that the reality of her achievement began to resonate with her.

“It hit me when I was driving home and taking my bags out of the car on the Tuesday. The title is just sitting in my bag, the zip opens, and I’m like, Oh yeah, that’s the Intercontinental Championship. I won that. I brought that home. That’s when it hits me.” (quotes courtesy Wrestling INC)

As a formidable champion, Valkyria has successfully defended her title against competitors like Dakota Kai and Ivy Nile. She is set to face Becky Lynch again on June 7 at Money in the Bank, following her previous victory over Lynch at last month's Backlash event.
