Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], November 28: Lovlina Borgohain, who earned a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics, expressed her enthusiasm regarding India's selection as the host for the 2030 Commonwealth Games. She believes this decision will inspire the youth to engage in sports and aim for international representation, ultimately bringing honor to the nation.
In her remarks to the media, Borgohain emphasized that hosting the Commonwealth Games is a significant milestone for both India and Gujarat. She highlighted that such prestigious events uplift athletes' spirits and motivate individuals nationwide.
"This is an incredible chance for India. Major competitions held on our soil bring immense joy to athletes. When our citizens witness these events, it serves as a great source of encouragement and inspiration. With the games taking place in Gujarat, it holds special significance for the state and its athletes. We are indeed fortunate to have this opportunity," stated the Indian boxer.
The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) announced on Wednesday that Ahmedabad, Gujarat, will serve as the official venue for the 2030 Commonwealth Games. The IOA confirmed, "Amdavad, India (also known as Ahmedabad), has been officially ratified as the host for the Centenary Commonwealth Games in 2030, marking a historic moment for the Commonwealth Sports Movement."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended India for securing the rights to host the 100th Commonwealth Games, asserting that the nation's "collective commitment" has solidified India's position in the global sports arena.
In a post on X, he remarked, "I am thrilled that India has won the bid to host the Centenary Commonwealth Games 2030! Congratulations to the people of India and the sporting community. It is our shared commitment and sportsmanship that has placed India prominently on the global sports map.
