Lasith Malinga Joins Sri Lanka as Fast Bowling Consultant for T20 World Cup 2026

Sri Lanka has officially appointed the iconic fast bowler Lasith Malinga as a consultant fast bowling coach in preparation for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026.
The announcement from Sri Lanka Cricket revealed that Malinga's consultancy will be effective from December 15, 2025, to January 25, 2026.
Malinga's Extensive Background
Malinga, who led Sri Lanka to victory against India in the 2014 T20 World Cup, brings significant expertise to the fast-bowling unit, as noted by the ICC.
With 107 wickets in 84 T20I matches, he is particularly renowned for his skills in death bowling. Since retiring from all formats of cricket in 2021, the 42-year-old has been involved in coaching roles within T20 franchise leagues and served as Sri Lanka's bowling strategy coach in 2022.
Preparations for the World Cup
As Sri Lanka gears up to co-host the T20 World Cup starting on February 7, they aim to leverage Malinga's vast experience. The team is placed in Group B, competing against Australia, Ireland, Zimbabwe, and Oman.
Their first match is scheduled against Ireland on February 8 at the R Premadasa International Stadium in Colombo.
Recently, Sri Lanka announced a preliminary squad for the T20 World Cup and will engage in a home series against Pakistan and England leading up to the tournament.
