Sri Lanka Cricket Welcomes Lasith Malinga
In a significant development, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced the appointment of former fast bowler Lasith Malinga as the new fast bowling consultant for the national team ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026. This appointment is on a short-term basis, with Malinga's tenure commencing on December 15 and extending until January 25, 2026. Notably, Malinga will play a crucial role in the development and training of the national team's fast bowlers, preparing them for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
SLC aims to leverage Malinga's expertise in death overs bowling and explore how it can be beneficial for the national team during their World Cup preparations. With the T20 World Cup set to begin on February 7, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, the team has several important matches lined up before the tournament.
Prior to the World Cup, Sri Lanka will face Pakistan in a three-match T20 International series, scheduled for January 7, 9, and 11. Following this series against Pakistan, Sri Lanka will engage in an ODI series against England.
These matches will take place on January 22, 24, and 27, followed by three T20 International matches on January 30, February 1, and 3. With a packed schedule, Sri Lanka will kick off their T20 World Cup campaign against Ireland on February 8 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
