Kumar Sangakkara Questions India's Decision on Jasprit Bumrah's Workload Management

India vs England Test Match Update

The second Test match between India and England is currently underway at Edgbaston, where Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been rested. This decision comes in light of the much-discussed concept of workload management that gained traction before the series began. As a result, Bumrah will not participate in this Test but is expected to play in the Lord's Test. This choice has raised eyebrows among several cricketing experts.

Former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara has expressed his concerns regarding this decision. He stated that different situations require tailored approaches. In an interview with Sky Sports, he questioned the rationale behind the decision, asking how it was made and who was involved in the discussions. He wondered if the decision was based on consultations with players or physiotherapists and whether the Lord's Test is deemed more critical than the ongoing series, which is at stake. With five wickets already down, the match appears to be leaning towards England.

Sangakkara further remarked that he would expect the coach to have approached Bumrah, suggesting that while they initially planned for him to play the third and fifth Tests, they should consider having him participate in the first and second Tests instead. This would allow him a two-week break before the next match.

India's Series Challenges

India has already lost the first match against England, played in Leeds, and has yet to secure a Test victory at Edgbaston. If they fail to win the second Test, it will become increasingly challenging for India to salvage the series. Prior to the team's arrival in England, management had already decided that Bumrah would not play all five Tests, limiting him to just three.
