Kris Srikkanth Critiques Gautam Gambhir's Decision to Drop Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
Srikkanth's Criticism of Gambhir's Decision
Kris Srikkanth, a former Indian cricketer and chief selector for the BCCI, has openly criticized head coach Gautam Gambhir regarding his treatment of young talent Vaibhav Sooryavanshi after the player's disappointing start in the T20I series against England.
The 15-year-old made a rocky debut, scoring 4, 13, and 15 in matches held in Manchester, Nottingham, and Bristol. Following these performances, he was excluded from the fifth T20I at The Oval, which led to widespread criticism about the management's approach to nurturing young players under pressure.
Sooryavanshi's Stellar Performance Against Zimbabwe
Despite his initial struggles, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi showcased his potential by scoring a blistering fifty off just 18 balls in the first T20I against Zimbabwe. This performance was pivotal in helping India chase down a target of 126 runs with 40 balls remaining, securing a seven-wicket victory.

Srikkanth's YouTube Rant
In a recent episode on his YouTube channel, 'Cheeky Cheeka', Srikkanth expressed his frustration over Gambhir's decision to drop Sooryavanshi after just a few poor outings against formidable opponents. He emphasized that the young player deserves more support.
Srikkanth praised Sooryavanshi's commitment, noting that instead of returning home after the England tour, he went directly to the Rajasthan Royals camp to improve his skills, particularly in handling short balls.
"He possesses an impressive array of shots, yet he hasn't played a single cross-batted shot. This boy is truly exceptional. Why would Gambhir drop him after just three failures, risking his confidence?" Srikkanth remarked.
Sooryavanshi's Dedication
"I commend Vaibhav for his dedication. After the England series, he chose to focus on his game rather than go home. He is determined to prove his worth to the world," Srikkanth added.
Sooryavanshi's IPL Success
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was quickly included in the India T20I squad for the tours of the UK and Zimbabwe due to his outstanding performance in the IPL, where he scored 776 runs, including a century and five fifties, with an average of 48.50 and an impressive strike rate of 237.30 across 16 matches.
However, he did not get a chance to play in the T20I series against Ireland before making his international debut against England.
Fearless Approach to Batting
Srikkanth further highlighted Sooryavanshi's fearless batting style, noting that despite facing early challenges, the teenager did not alter his aggressive approach to secure his position in the team.
"His ability to score at a strike rate of 250 is remarkable. Typically, after a few failures, players tend to play it safe, but he continues to play boldly. Scoring a fifty off 18 balls has become routine for him. That’s what makes him great," Srikkanth stated.
Sooryavanshi's Signature Style
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's aggressive batting style has become a defining characteristic of his game, enabling him to bounce back quickly and deliver crucial performances for his team when needed most.
