Kolkata Knight Riders Face Major Setback with Harshit Rana's Injury Ahead of IPL
Harshit Rana's Recovery Puts KKR in a Tough Spot
Kolkata: The Kolkata Knight Riders are bracing for a challenging IPL season as their fast bowler Harshit Rana is expected to miss a considerable amount of time due to recovery from knee surgery performed last month.
Reports indicate that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet established a timeline for his return.
Rana suffered a ligament strain in his right knee during a warm-up match against South Africa ahead of the T20 World Cup and is currently in rehabilitation, with no definitive return date provided by the BCCI medical team.
He had to exit the match after just one over and was later ruled out of the T20 World Cup, leading to Mohammed Siraj stepping in as his replacement for the tournament, where India emerged victorious.
Recently, Rana received the Best International Debutant award at the BCCI Naman Awards, highlighting his potential despite the setback.
His absence is a significant blow to the three-time IPL champions KKR, who are already dealing with several injury issues.
Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana is also recovering from a calf strain sustained during the T20 World Cup, which was initially thought not to impact his IPL participation.
Additionally, KKR is without left-arm seamer Mustafizur Rahman, who was released by the BCCI due to strained diplomatic relations between India and Bangladesh earlier this year.
In response, the franchise has signed Zimbabwean fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani, who opted out of his Pakistan Super League contract to join KKR.
The team is set to commence pre-season training on Wednesday.
Other pace options for KKR include Vaibhav Arora, Akash Deep, Umran Malik, Kartik Tyagi, along with all-rounders Cameron Green and Ramandeep Singh.
KKR will kick off their IPL campaign against the Mumbai Indians in an away match on March 29, followed by home games against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings, and Lucknow Super Giants.
