Cameron Green Becomes IPL's Most Expensive Overseas Player

Abu Dhabi: In a stunning turn of events, Kolkata Knight Riders made headlines by securing Australian all-rounder Cameron Green for an astonishing Rs 25.20 crore during the IPL mini auction held on Tuesday. This remarkable bid has set a new record, surpassing the previous highest of Rs 24.75 crore held by fellow Australian Mitchell Starc.

The auction saw a fierce competition between Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings, with KKR ultimately clinching the deal.

Despite the hefty price tag, Green's take-home salary for the season will be Rs 18 crore (approximately USD 1.9 million), as the remaining amount is allocated to the BCCI's player development initiative, in accordance with auction regulations for foreign players.

Previously, Green played for Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, amassing 707 runs and taking 16 wickets across 29 IPL matches.

In contrast, Prithvi Shaw and Sarfaraz Khan went unsold, despite Shaw's impressive recent performances in domestic cricket, including a remarkable 22-ball 73 by Sarfaraz in a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match.
