Intense Practice Ahead of the ODI Series

Indian cricket stars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have kicked off their training in preparation for the first match of the three-match ODI series against New Zealand. This series is set to commence on January 11 at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara. A video shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on X showcases both players practicing alongside their teammates ahead of the opening match.

Training Highlights

In the footage, Kohli and Sharma are seen batting in the nets, with Kohli focusing on his elegant off-drives and various other shots, while Sharma practices leg-glances and other techniques. The video also captures the duo engaging in catching drills, fielding exercises, and running sessions. The BCCI captioned the video, "RoKoo Reloaded. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are ready for the India-New Zealand ODIs."

Return to ODI Format

Both Kohli and Sharma are making their return to the Indian ODI squad for the series against New Zealand, with both players now exclusively focusing on the ODI format. Kohli recently excelled in a three-match series against South Africa in December, scoring 302 runs at an impressive average of 151.00, which included two centuries and a half-century, earning him the 'Player of the Series' title. He also participated in two matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy at the end of December, marking his return to the tournament after 15 years, where he scored 131 runs against Andhra Pradesh and 77 runs against Gujarat, showcasing his remarkable form.

Rohit's Performance

On the other hand, Rohit Sharma, currently ranked as the number one ODI batsman, maintained his position by scoring 146 runs in the Proteas series. Upon Kohli's return to the team, Sharma scored 155 runs against Sikkim but unfortunately got out for a golden duck against Uttarakhand. Both players aim to continue their excellent form in the upcoming New Zealand series to strengthen their candidacy for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
