KKR's Tim Southee Optimistic About Cameron Green's Bowling Comeback

Cameron Green's Anticipated Return

As the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) prepare for their upcoming match against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), head coach Tim Southee has announced that all-rounder Cameron Green is expected to resume bowling shortly.

After suffering two disappointing losses, KKR is eager to secure their first victory of the season at Eden Gardens. The team has been significantly impacted by the absence of bowlers Harshit Rana and Matheesha Pathirana. Additionally, Green, who was acquired for Rs 25.20 crores, has not been able to bowl due to a lower-back injury. Cricket Australia had previously indicated that he would be back in action within 10-12 days. Recently, Green was observed bowling vigorously in the nets, working to increase his bowling workload.

Southee Discusses Green's Bowling Progress

During a pre-match press conference, Southee commented on Green's bowling status, stating, "Green has been performing well in his rehabilitation and is on track to bowl in matches soon. We maintain regular communication with Australian Cricket, and I am confident we will see him bowling shortly."

Challenges for KKR's Bowling Attack

Following their recent defeats, KKR's bowling lineup, which includes inexperienced Indian players Vaibhav Arora, Kartik Tyagi, and Zimbabwean pacer Blessing Muzarabani, has struggled, conceding too many runs. The performance of spinners Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine has also been below par.

Southee's Confidence in Young Bowlers

Southee expressed optimism regarding the pace attack, highlighting their potential despite their inexperience. He noted that glimpses of their talent were evident in the first two matches, but consistency is key. "It's a long tournament, and while we've faced setbacks with our bowlers, this opens up opportunities for others. We are excited about our bowling group. They may lack experience, but they possess significant skills," he remarked.

"We've seen flashes of their ability in the initial games, and it's our responsibility to help them achieve greater consistency. Although the first two matches didn't go as planned, I believe they will demonstrate their skills throughout the tournament," he added.

Insights on Kartik Tyagi

Regarding Kartik Tyagi, who has taken two wickets in two matches but has an economy rate of 11.37, Southee stated, "He has impressive pace and a diverse skill set, and we are working to maximize his potential. He has prepared well for this tournament, and we hope it will be a significant one for him."

Vaibhav Arora's Role

On Vaibhav Arora, who has stepped up as the leading Indian pacer in the absence of Harshit, Southee noted, "He performed well for us last year, taking early wickets with his ability to swing the ball. We are focused on helping all our bowlers reach their full potential. They may not be the most experienced, but they have incredible talent, and it's about allowing them to showcase their abilities on the field."
