KKR's Bowling Coach Analyzes Loss to CSK in IPL Match
KKR's Struggles in the Power Play
Tim Southee, the bowling coach for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), expressed that the team allowed 'a few too many' runs during the initial overs against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their recent IPL match, which they lost by 32 runs. Despite securing two wickets in the power play, KKR conceded 72 runs in just six overs, enabling CSK to set a target of 192/5 in their 20 overs.
Insights from Tim Southee
During the post-match press conference, Southee reflected on KKR's performance, noting that their line and length were slightly off in the early stages, which proved costly. He emphasized that on favorable batting pitches, any early mistakes are often capitalized on by aggressive batsmen. While acknowledging the team's struggles during the power play, he commended the spinners for their efforts in stabilizing the game during the middle overs. 'We were a bit off in the first couple of overs, letting too many runs slip. On good wickets, batters will attack from the start, and if you're not precise, it can hurt you. However, I was pleased with how the team responded, especially the spinners, who managed to regain control,' Southee stated.
Match Summary
CSK, batting first, scored 192/5 in their allotted overs, with significant contributions from Samson (48 runs off 32 balls, including 4 fours and 3 sixes) and Brevis (41 runs off 29 balls, with 4 fours and 2 sixes). KKR's Kartik Tyagi delivered an impressive performance with bowling figures of 2/35, while Anukul Roy (1/21 in 3 overs) and Sunil Narine (1/21 in 4 overs) also made notable contributions.
In response, KKR faced early setbacks, finding themselves at 29/2. However, a partnership of 50 runs between captain Rahane (28 runs off 22 balls) and Angkrish Raghuvanshi (27 runs off 19 balls) provided some hope. Unfortunately, a pivotal spell from Noor Ahmad led to a collapse, and KKR ultimately ended their innings at 160/7.
